I've always been enriched and transformed by the materials I get from this ministry. They have a solid grounding in the Bible and teach the Word well. Great resource!One thing I noticed about this 1 Peter study: it is especially good for a mixed group of new believers and long-time believers. It addresses basic issues of salvation and Christian character (learning to be like Jesus) and also living under pressure and keeping your hope in times of trial and encouragement for Christian leaders.
Kinda long, but you don't have to do the whole thing at once. I think it's supposed to be an 11-week study if you do it with a group.
I usually go through these studies on my own, but I've done group studies before and the way it's organized I think it would be great for group discussion, too. Very approachable language, easy to read. Really relevant and applicable to daily life. Reading through this study, I learned something about the Bible (who wrote the book of 1 Peter, what times they lived in, good background and context) and also feel like I was strengthened in my faith and life as a follower of Jesus.

Great Bible Study.
Phil Sommerville has done it again with "1 Peter Living Hope a small group Bible study." I've appreciated previous work by Phil on biblical studies and the 40 and 50 day adventures because there is a simple, direct invitation to move to the depths of a given passage without delay. By this I mean that I don't get stopped by overly involved study questions that hold me back from exploring the meaning and challenge of the text. Rather the questions posed move me quickly to encounter and explore the deeper meaning and potential impact of the biblical text on my life.
There is simple, solid biblical background provided and some theological explanations that let me make accurate interpretations of the texts. Links are made with other parts of Scripture that teach similar themes and can help flesh out theological concepts introduced in 1 Peter as well as contribute to a sense of the unity of Scripture.
The study will certainly allow for mature believers to gain new insights into 1 Peter, but there are also many gentle assurances for non or new believers that the study of 1 Peter is worth their time and will not be too daunting. The inclusion of the 4 "C"s reflection questions brings a nice unifying rhythm to the on going study.
While I think the basic study material is enough for a group to have and organize their study, the addition of the leader's guide provides more material from which to choose than will ever probably be needed. It's a great study guide!
